I am a psychiatrist, breathwork facilitator, and spiritual explorer whose path has been deeply shaped by both science and soul. Originally from Ohio, I earned a B.S. in Biology from Kent State University and an M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, followed by a psychiatry residency at Cleveland Clinic. My early career included teaching high school biology and working as an athletic trainer and coach, but it was my passion for healing that ultimately led me to medicine and trauma-informed care.
Over the years, my psychiatric practice has focused on supporting trauma survivors—those affected by childhood abuse, sexual violence, combat, natural disasters, and refugee experiences. I served as a psychiatrist with the Veterans Affairs (VA) from 2009 until my retirement in 2025, always guided by a deep reverence for the human spirit and its capacity to heal.
My personal healing journey opened the door to expanded states of consciousness and spiritual awakening. Through Holotropic Breathwork® and integrative psychotherapy, I began to explore the depths of my own childhood trauma and the vast terrain of inner transformation. I became certified as a Holotropic Breathwork facilitator in 2017 and a Dreamshadow® Transpersonal Breathwork facilitator in 2022.
As my breathwork practice deepened, it evolved into an adventure in shamanism—guiding me into non-ordinary states of consciousness where I encountered spiritually rich visions, ancestral wisdom, and multi-dimensional healing. These experiences have profoundly shaped my understanding of soul work, expanded awareness, and the sacred nature of trauma recovery.
In my book, Soul Can You: How Expanded Consciousness Cultivates Spiritual Awakening, Trauma Healing, and Creative Breakthroughs, I share my transformative journey and the spiritual insights that emerged along the way. This exploration also sparked a new passion: process painting, which has become one of my favorite creative outlets and a meditative practice in its own right.
My work bridges the realms of psychiatry, shamanic healing, and transpersonal psychology—offering a holistic approach to transformation that honors both the wounds and the wisdom we carry. I’m grateful to be part of a community that recognizes the sacred in healing and the power of consciousness to guide us home.
