Nepalese Shamanism – Mala & Dhyangro with Dhanshing Tamang

Wed Oct 1, 2025 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM EDT

Online, Zoom

Nepal has a millennia old Shamanic tradition that shares roots with other Himalayan traditions like Bon, Vedic and Buddhism. Jhakri – Nepalese Shaman – are both ritualists and healers. In their ritual and healing practice they use a variety of tools like the Mala (prayer beads) and the Dhyāngro, the sacred frame drum. In this 90min webinar, renowned Jhakri and teacher Dhanshing Tamang will give you an introduction to the use of both of these tools in his Tamang tradition. You will learn about the Mala as a tool for meditation, chanting, and spiritual protection and how Dhyāngro is used in shamanic rituals to heal. A great way to connect and learn from an authentic lineage holder of the Himalayan tradition.

The webinar will start at 2pm NYC, 7pm UK time, 8pm CEST. A recording will be available for all ticket holders for 30 days.

About Dhanshing

Dhanshing Tamang belongs to the Tamang ethnic group. Ta means horse and Mang means man. According to him, the Tamangs came from Tibet, and before Tibet, from the steppe, but from where exactly, no one remembers. He lives in a village in northern Nepal and is a 13th generation Jhakri, as shamans are called in Nepal.
