Online, Zoom
This talk is an in-depth exploration of the links between shamanism and mental illness. It looks at the traditional initiatory role of the shamanic sickness and the parallels this has with what we label mental illness in the modern world. How disturbing mental experiences can sometimes be a calling to a greater path, of serving the community in the role of the shaman and why this might occur. We will also explore the social and ecological aspects of mental health and how shamanism can help bring us back into balance with the world, providing individual healing alongside planetary change. The latest scientific research into altered states and psychedelic medicines and how these can help treat mental distress will also be covered. The talk is aimed at changing the way we look at mental illness to a more holistic and healing perspective.
We will start at 3pm New York, 8pm UK. A recording will be available for all ticket holders for 30 days.
