A shaman is often referred to as a “seer” or a “knower” due to his involvement in a cognitive system that is rooted in direct experience. The role of a shaman transcends between the social realm of our reality and the spiritual world, making him an intermediary figure in modern society.
Interestingly, in a globalized world, a shaman can assume two distinct roles: as an outcast, feared by many, or as a savior who strives to adapt individuals to their surroundings. By transforming their own consciousness, shamans acquire special abilities and the opportunity to become their authentic selves.
A shaman possesses the ability to transcend time and explore the impossible and unknown. Through their actions, shamans showcase the dichotomy between society and nature, highlighting the intricate, versatile, and inconsistent development of human spirit, as exemplified by the construction of individual self-consciousness.
Shamans engage in their practices in a specific state of consciousness known as the “shamanic state,” or trance. This altered state is essential for establishing contact with the “other reality.” Through this altered consciousness, shamans seek guidance from spirit helpers and teachers in order to provide assistance to others.
Considered natural healers, shamans are tasked with aiding those who suffer physically or morally. To obtain assistance, a shaman appeals to the spirits. A spirit can manifest as a teacher, often appearing in human form. When encountering such a spirit, the shaman undergoes a transformative experience that holds the potential for profound change. Power is synonymous with the soul, an inherent concept for shamans, critical for existence. A portion of this power takes the form of the soul, which can be perceived as vital energy.
The shaman acknowledges that everything in existence possesses a soul and is alive. By altering their state of consciousness, they establish communication with spirits, souls, and power. Through this connection, the shaman acquires knowledge and support from the spiritual realm.
