The Primorsky Krai Court has rejected the appeal of the defense of shaman Alexander Gabyshev against the decision of the Ussuriysk District Court, which refused to transfer Gabyshev to a milder type of treatment, lawyer Alexei Pryanishnikov said.

According to Pryanishnikov, the management of the psychiatric hospital in Ussuriysk once again supported the complaint to transfer Gabyshev to a milder type of treatment. The lawyer announced his intention to appeal to the court of cassation. Previously, the court three times refused to transfer Alexander Gabyshev to a milder type of treatment.

  • In the spring of 2019, Alexander Gabyshev set off from Yakutsk on a trek to Moscow to carry out a “rite of expulsion of Putin”. People joined him along the way. The shaman was detained weeks later on the border of Buryatia and the Irkutsk region.
  • Gabyshev was later placed in a psychoneurological dispensary, and then a criminal case was opened against him for calling for extremism.
  • In October 2021, the Yakutsk City Court placed Gabyshev for compulsory treatment in the Novosibirsk Psychiatric Hospital of Special Type. He was accused of using violence against law enforcement officers and extremism.
  • In April 2022, Alexander Gabyshev was transferred from the Novosibirsk psychiatric hospital to Ussuriysk.
  • Residents of Siberia and the Far East have so far held pickets and other actions in support of Gabyshev. In 2021, the Memorial Human Rights Center included Gabyshev in the lists of political prisoners.
