Tue May 7, 2024 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM EDT

Online, Zoom

Join traditional Japanese spirituality/belief Ko-Shintō online ceremony conducted by Rev. Kuniko Kanawa, and pray with her for each one of us take sincere actions for global peacebuilding in this chaotic era.

In Ko-Shintō, the spiritual world and the physical world are one side of the other. They are not detached. A prayer and an action are the set. Spiritual power of the sincere prayer flourishes in this physical world, by each one of our reverent attitudes/actions.

The ceremony is followed by the introductory academic lecture on Ko-Shintō/ Shintō, and the detailed explanations of each rituals decorum, as well as the translation of the chanted Norito liturgy, and how to live based on Ko-Shintō spirituality.

Please note:

  • This is a spiritual ceremony. So even whilst online, please show the same attitude as you would if attending a live ceremony and refrain from eating, drinking or using you phone during the ceremony.
  • To clarify – Ko-Shintō is the ancestral belief/spirituality with the element of Shamanism since prehistorical Jōmon era which lasted more than ten-thousand years in peace and harmony. The role of Ko-Shintō/Shintō clergy is to be “Naka-torimochi”, a mediator a between kami, humans, and all living things in the universe, to serve the kami on behalf. Ko-Shintō/Shintō clergy may also play the role of the kami to transmit the will of the kami. However, out of their humbleness, addressing them as “shaman” may not be suitable as its term seem either overestimated or underestimated today. Through observing Ko-Shintō practices and rituals like purification and offerings to the spirits, Shamanic Practitioners can learn a lot about the approach, attitude and discipline of an ancient spiritual practice.
  • No spectators are allowed. One participant per Zoom account.
  • We will first watch a specially pre-recorded ceremony, followed by the live lecture. A recording of the webinar will be available for 30 days for all ticket holders (not downloadable).
  • We will start at 3pm NYC / 8pm UK time.

About Rev. Kanawa of Kamunabi Ban’yū Ko-Shintō Shrine

Rev. Kuniko Kanawa humbly received a Shintō priestess certification through Ama-no-Iwakura-Jingu, the independent Ancient style Shintō shrine in Horoshima prefecture in October 2015. Since then, she has been reverently serving Kami in various directions such as conducting ceremonies/blessings, offering Kagura sacred dances, Misogi purification and other Ko-Shintō meditation practices, academic/practical lectures, teaching classes, cultural exchanges, and exhibiting photography.

It is her wish that sharing, preserving and spreading the precious universal belief/spirituality of ancestral Ko-Shintō/Shintō, will contribute to global peacebuilding in harmony.
