[OSEN=Sun Mi-kyung Reporter] Actor Kim Tae-woo is generating buzz for his unprecedented bold visuals and acting.
Kim Tae-woo played the role of Jang Do-cheol, a shaman, in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Human from Today’ (written by Park Chan-young and Jo A-young, directed by Kim Jeong-kwon), which aired on the 23rd to 24th. Particularly, Kim made his first appearance with half-tied long hair and sunglasses, revealing an extraordinary presence.
In the drama, Jang Do-cheol drew attention as a “fox hunter” obsessed with capturing the gumiho. Jang intentionally approached Lee Yoon (played by Choi Seung-yoon), who is in prison, and offered to help lift the gumiho Eun-ho’s (played by Kim Hye-yoon) spell on him, suggesting he become bait for the fox hunt. Jang’s low muttering, “From now on, I’m going to hunt foxes,” was chilling enough to send shivers down viewers’ spines.
After holding a bizarre ritual to summon the spirit of a stray dog at an abandoned construction site, Jang cruelly scratched Lee’s arm with a sickle to make him emit a fox-like scent, displaying a ruthless and maniacal side. Jang’s icy gaze and expression created an overwhelming pressure, instantly transforming the drama’s genre into a mystery thriller.
Additionally, Jang disguised himself as a taxi driver to abduct Kang Si-yeol (played by Roman), heightening tension to lure Eun-ho. He then threatened Eun-ho with the Sajinchamsageom, a sword capable of cutting even fate, creating a hair-trigger situation. Though he failed to hunt the gumiho, Jang’s meticulous plot became the decisive moment that caused Eun-ho to lose her mystical powers and her fox bead to shatter.
Through ‘Human from Today,’ Kim Tae-woo demonstrated his seasoned acting prowess, creating a unique shaman character that straddles ‘K-horror’ and ‘K-fantasy.’ Especially with Jang’s reasons for harboring resentment toward the gumiho still shrouded in mystery, Kim filled the character’s emotional arc with subtle tremors in his lips and eyelids. With Eun-ho transformed into a human after Jang’s threat, anticipation for future developments is growing.
