Across shamanic traditions around the world, there is a moment when life shifts. What first appears as crisis, illness, emotional upheaval, or disruption slowly reveals itself as something else entirely – a call. In the Sangoma tradition of Southern Africa, this calling is known as ukuthwasa: a profound initiation in which the ancestors summon an individual into service.
In this webinar, Gogo Dineo Ndlanzi will explore the nature of the Call to Serve through the lens of African spirituality while speaking to universal patterns that shamanic practitioners across lineages will recognise. She will share how the ancestors communicate, how spiritual illness differs from psychological breakdown, what happens when the call is resisted, and how initiation reshapes identity, purpose, and responsibility.
Drawing on her lived experience as a pioneering Sangoma who bridges sacred African tradition with contemporary life, Gogo Dineo brings a grounded, integrative perspective to the journey from disruption to devotion. With a deep understanding of both biological and spiritual dimensions of illness, she speaks to the intersection of mental health, ancestral wisdom, trauma, and healing in a way that is both culturally rooted and globally relevant.
This session is for practitioners, healers, and seekers who have experienced their own form of calling or who support others walking that path. It offers an opportunity to reflect on initiation not as pathology, but as sacred reorientation.
The webinar will start at 3pm NYC / 7pm UK. A recording will be available for all ticket holders for 30 days.
