Dean Liprini in his research paper origins of human spirituality has presented that concentric circle petroglyphs were used by the early shamans of the San Bushman to create rain. The concentric circles representing raindrops were filled with water. Prayers were offered at midday,  when the water vapour symbolically and physically rose up to create the clouds, that were encouraged to be amplified so that rain could fall on the dry earth..
