James Arthur Ray, author of "Harmonic Wealth - The Secret of Attracting the Life You Want" and well known for his appearance in the bestselling "Law of Attraction documentary: "The Secret" was arrested earlier this month and charged today with three counts of manslaughter after 3 people died and 18 were hospitalized after an extreme Sweatlodge event he organised in Arizona in October 2009.

Does anyone know of other deaths and injuries in connection with Sweatlodges?

You can read more about this particular sweatlodge fiasco in the online edition of "Positive Living with Your Inner Shaman"

Cool newsletter, thanks for the link!

Sorry though, have no info on additional deaths in sweat lodges.

Thanks Old Rivers! A lot of work has gone into those newsletters, the index for which is here: www.sunflower-health.com/shamanism/ezine/index.htm] by the way.

It could of course be argued that the sweatlodge worked fine - a bunch of people did get "purified" - host as well as participants stripped of a few illusions [as suggested in my newsletter piece].

I recall going to that edge of ego death in a Lakota sweatlodge once and the leader saying "Now would be a good time to die!" [being middle-aged and not very fit my suffering was intense so I could really see his point!] then after a pause "Why not choose to live?" I chose to live - to be reborn into this life! My condolences to those angry grieving families of those who may have made a different choice.
