Hi all,

I'm relatively new to shamanic practice, and I have a problem.
I'm finding it difficult to attain a state of trance.
Possibly because I have trouble clearing my mind.
I have started to use my drum though, and I find that the rhythms do have an effect.
I was wondering if anyone could provide me with any tips here, and another question I have is whether I should be drumming myself or have someone else drum for me.
Any tips of any kind are more than welcome.

Kind regards and many thanks in advance.

Just keep trying every day, but don't "work" it, as that will defeat the whole experience. Continue using the drum, as you seem to have some positive effect with that. As the thoughts in your mind pop up, just recognize you have drifted and go back to the sound of the drum.

Another way is to simply listen to your breathing, slowly and steadily. You can count to 10 breaths and repeat the cycle. And as thoughts enter your mind, just smile and go back to listening to your breath.

Thanks! I will do this. I realise that I'm probably lacking enough practice as I've only recently really set my mind to this.
I've just bought a new beater for my drum and it provides a better sound.
One question though, does it matter if I'm drumming myself or if I have someone else drum for me?

yes - If you are journeying for yourself, it is best to have someone else drum for you or to listen to recorded drumming, to keep track of time and give you complete relaxation for the journey to occur.

no - If you are journeying to find answers for someone else, you can end the journey whenever you receive the "answer" to your questions.

I've noticed that extensive chaotic body movement accompanied with the sound helps to reach trance.
